In 2015 the National Academy of Medicine and the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies) held the third annual District of Columbia (DC) Public Health Case Challenge, which had its inaugural year in 2013 and was both inspired by and modeled on the Emory University Global Health Case Competition.

Alexander Ives, Assistant Director of the Computational Biology Institute, participated in the team from The George Washington University, which received an award for the most practical approach to investigating and addressing issues related to the mental health of older veterans.

A discussion paper, summarizing the approaches of each team competing in the case challenge, was published by the National Academy of Medicine on October 9th, 2017. It can be read here.
